  • How long does HRT take to work? A week-by-week timeline

HRT (hormone replacement therapy, also called MHT) often starts to ease hot flashes within days to weeks, and the NHS says symptoms should improve after a few days or weeks. In one 12-week trial, most of the hot flash gain showed by week 4. If nothing has changed by about 3 months, ask your prescriber for a review.

  • Is there a test for perimenopause? What guidelines say

No test can confirm perimenopause. It is diagnosed from your age, symptoms and period changes, and hormone levels swing too much to settle it (Australasian Menopause Society). If you are over 45, you usually need no blood test. If you are under 45 with changed periods, ask about one.

Questions about MenoAnswers

Who writes the guides?

Alexander Gusev, the editor, researches and writes every guide from the guidelines, drug labels and trials it links to.

Which countries is it for?

The US, UK, Canada and Australia. When a guideline, brand name or prescription rule differs, the guide names the country, so you read the version that applies to you.

How current are the guides?

Every guide shows the date its facts were last checked. When a label, guideline or trial changes the answer, the guide is updated and the new date goes on the page.

Why trust a guide over a forum thread?

A forum tells you what happened to one person. A MenoAnswers guide tells you what happens to most people, with the guideline or study linked next to each claim so you can check it in one click.
